BARNARD GRIFFIN WINEMAKER ROB GRIFFIN OFFERS 2009 STATE OF THE CRUSH REPORT

RICHLAND, WA:  In regard to the progress of the 2009 CRUSH in Columbia Valley, Washington Barnard Griffin’s owner/winemaker Rob Griffin reports that, “The wine grape sugars sat still for the first few weeks in September but have quickly begun to ripen due to the weather.  Griffin said the weather is “creating a very intense harvest schedule for us now where everything is coming in at once. But in waiting for the fruit to truly ripen we are seeing great fruit quality.  The weather is perfect and will continue to ripen the fruit.  Nature thus far has been very cooperative.”

And, he predicts, “there is an abundance of ripeness, flavor and soft tannins in the reds which are signs of this being a great year for reds.” This from a wine pioneer who has seen over 30 vintages in the state of Washington.

This weekend – the first weekend of fall – is an excellent time to visit Barnard Griffin winery and enjoy its annual “Catch The Crush Cellarbration”  at its Richland Tasting Room.  On Saturday and Sunday 9/26 – 9/27, from 10am to 5pm is a good time to buy.  The winery is offering special deals on case sales to make room for the new juice and vintage coming in this wonderful harvest time of year.  The general admission, non-refundable tasting fee is $10 and is deductible from case sale purchases.

As always, Barnard Griffin Wine Club members have complimentary access to tastings.  Barnard Griffin Wine Club Membership indeed has its privileges! Don’t miss out on the beauty of the fall in the Columbia Valley vineyards and great Barnard Griffin wines.

According to the Washington Wine Commission, the number of high-quality wines produced in Washington has been growing steadily as the state’s national and international reputation as a top wine producer has grown. More than 32,000 acres of land are planted in wine grapes in the state, and there are now more  than 650 licensed wineries.            Thus far in 2009, Barnard Griffin has received major recognition for many of its wines, demonstrating continuing leadership in Washington state-produced wines.  Winemaker Rob Griffin says, “It is exciting to make small batch artisanal wines that are generating such recognition, proving once again Washington State is one of the great wine-producing regions in the world.” YouTube video of Rob Griffin
